7 Common Enlarged Prostate Symptoms Which Warrant Further Investigation
The great majority of men will run into prostate problems as they get older with problems frequently appearing at around 50 years of age. By 60 approximately one in two men will be affected and by 80 90% of men will be experiencing some symptoms of an enlarged prostate.
In very many cases prostate symptoms will be relatively mild and, as at this point in life most of us are starting to experience a range of medical problems, we have a tendency to simply ignore prostate symptoms as being little more than part of the normal ageing process. Frequently this is fine since most of the problems seen with the prostate are not serious and, providing the symptoms don’t bother you too much you can live with them quite happily and they won’t do you any real harm.
Sadly however all too frequently the problem is prostate cancer and if this is ignored it may well spread and literally kill you. In fact, prostate cancer produces the second highest cancer death toll in the the US today.
There are a variety of symptoms that could point to prostate problems but, as with a lot of things, these symptoms can also be caused by a whole range of different problems. In the majority of cases however if these symptoms are not being caused by problems with the prostate they will tend to be short lived, arising perhaps from a simple infection that clears up in a week or two without any need for treatment. If however any of these symptoms start appearing on a regular basis or pop up and remain with you then it is quite likely that they are coming from an enlarged prostate gland. Prostate symptoms could include:
1. Difficulty beginning urination and a need to strain to begin urinating.
2. A weak flow of urine.
3. A tendency for the urine flow to stop and start.
4. The feeling that your bladder is not empty even when you have just been to the bathroom.
5. The feeling that you have to go to the toilet urgently and difficulty in “holding on”.
6. The need for more frequent visits to the bathroom and the need to keep getting up during the night.
7. The tendency to continue to dribble urine after you have been to the bathroom.
These prostate symptoms are the body’s warning signs that problems could be developing and, although in nearly all cases this is not serious and nothing to be concerned about, for a few men these turn out to be the alarm signals for a serious and all too often fatal condition.
The only certain way to find out if you fall into the first or the second category is get yourself checked out by your doctor who will do a couple of tests including a simple male prostate exam.
